Finally reunited, these two lovers must reckon with what they have gone through and prepare to travel north to face the Traitor, the God who has slain the previous Gods and loosed armies of demons on the world. Both of them are changed from their time apart-Shizuka has been scarred from her experiences fighting demons in the north and has taken to drink, while Shefali's infection with the blackblood plague grows worse over time and she fears losing control over herself altogether. Due to events in the first novel, The Phoenix Empress begins with Shefali and Shizuka reunited after eight years of enforced separation. The first book in the trilogy tells the story of how Shefali, the daughter of the ruler of the nomadic steppe people, and Shizuka, the heir to the throne of the Hokkaran empire, grew up together and fell in love. The Phoenix Empress picks up the story from the engaging epistolary novel The Tiger's Daughter. Links: Author's Website / Show Official Info / ![]()
